The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1, so we’d like to share our essential custom home hurricane preparedness tips. The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration projects the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season as the busiest in a decade. A combination of warm sea surface temperatures, the lack of a Pacific El Nino and other factors could result in the development of more named hurricanes than usual.
It’s important to make sure your home and loved ones will be safe and protected should a storm take aim at the Gulf Coast. Here then are 5 tips for your home’s hurricane preparedness.
KEEP YOUR GUTTERS CLEAR
Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts to prevent flooding and unnecessary pressure on the awnings.
WALK AROUND YOUR PROPERTY
If you know a storm is coming, there are some very basic steps you can take to minimize its impact. Identify a place to store lawn furniture, toys, gardening tools and trash cans (away from stairs and exits) to prevent them from being moved by high winds and possibly hurting someone.
PROPER SEALING OF WINDOWS AND DOORS
Wind only needs a small opening to get underneath something like a shingle or siding and rip it off. In the event of hurricane winds, a small opening in your doors or windows could enlarge and allow enough wind inside to compromise your home’s roof.
TRIM YOUR TREES
Tree limbs can potentially damage your home, a vehicle, or even your neighbor’s property. Regularly trimming the trees on your property is a good way to protect your windows and roof.
KEEP A GENERATOR ON HAND
A hurricane could potentially knock out power to your home. Having a generator could go a long way towards ensuring you don’t lose your food, or the livability of your home until power is restored.
CHECK FOR LOOSE FENCE POSTS
Anything that’s not nailed down is a liability, and that includes fence posts, which are often forgotten or ignored in homeowner’s storm-prep. Checking your fence’s footing is as easy as giving each post a strong shake to check for loose ones.

Not all builders build custom homes. I know that’s hard to believe but some builders are production builders and build lots on the same house plans in one neighborhood. Other builders build homes from a portfolio of plans that they have and let you “customize” that home by maybe picking out colors or light fixtures. A true custom home builder builds anything you can dream up…new technology, new and innovative products, whatever you want.
KGII Development is a true blue, luxury custom home builder that works with our customers to ensure that what they envision is built right before their very eyes…making their dreams a reality.

Do you have land or a lot that you want to build a home on?
If not what are you looking for? Acreage….Subdivision… and what part of town??
Sometimes one of the hardest parts in building a custom home is finding a lot that best suits a families living style and budget. If you do not already have a building site one of the best sources to help you find one is a realtor. Below are 5 top questions that you should be asking that realtor when it comes to purchasing land.
Do you have more questions you’d like to add to the list? Comment below and share your experience. We are all in this together and Sharing is Caring!
The first step in the home process, whether it is to purchase an existing home or build a custom home, is to figure out your budget. If you are going to finance the home you should first get in touch with a lender to get pre-qualified.
There are so many variables and different loan programs that most buyers are not sure which hole they fit into. VA loans 100%, FHA loans 97% but has PMI. Conventional loans can vary greatly depending on the program. Rural Development is 100% but depends on the area and a families income.
I always feel better advising our customers to see a lender to determine a more exact budget.
Now that you know what budget you want to stay in it’s time for the next step of finding the perfect land to build on.
